SECOND ROUND - Auditions for the original production of
An [Urban] Christmas Carol
Sunday August 17, 2025 10:30 am
Audition for the Youth Dance Theater of Greater Chicago and gain access to an exclusive Zoom Q&A with Alisa Finney, Artistic Director of the world-renowned Melbourne Ballet Company.
This is a rare chance for dancers to ask questions, get inspired, and hear what it takes to rise in the dance world—directly from a leader at the top of the global ballet scene. This rare, behind-the-scenes conversation is only for cast members and will take place in September.
Join a cast of motivated young artists and be part of something special! YDTGC showcases children ages 7 and up in many different dance styles. The 2025-26 season includes two full-length storybook ballets.
Dancers ages 7 years to adults, male and female audition for the show. Dancers need not be registered students of Baila Conmigo/Dance With Me to audition or be part of the show. However, it is highly recommended that company members take technique classes somewhere.
Every child who auditions will be accepted into the company. We will give every child the opportunity to perform, regardless of ability level and will place them in age and skill appropriate roles.
The second round of auditions for remaining principal and ensemble roles in An [Urban] Christmas Carol will be held Sunday, August 17 at Baila Conmigo/Dance With Me studios in Berwyn, IL. Auditions run from 10:30-11:30 with a short class. Students who can't make it in person have the option to audition by video.
You sign up for either in-person or video auditions by completing a registration form, AND paying the $25 audition fee.
Yes, there is a $500 all-inclusive production fee per cast member. This covers all choreography and instructor fees for 80+ hours of rehearsal, venue rental, tech staff, a dancer t-shirt, a professional headshot for the printed program, and access to the show video. Families must either pay in full at auditions or enroll in autopay for installments.
As a nonprofit, YDTGC is committed to making high-quality dance experiences accessible, but we must also remain financially sustainable amid declining arts funding. The production fee helps cover the real costs of producing a professional-level show.
Given the extensive rehearsal and creative work involved, this opportunity offers significant value—often exceeding the equivalent cost of weekly dance classes.
We understand cost can still be a concern. While we can’t guarantee financial aid, we actively seek sponsorships and partnerships to help offset expenses when possible.
Parents have the option to pay the production fee in four equal installments of $125 each. Payments are due by the 15th of the month.
Parents have the opportunity to volunteer the entire season to support the dance company and our dance community. More information on volunteer opportunities will be available closer to showtime.
The Youth Dance Theater of Greater Chicago, Inc. is an Illinois nonprofit organization. As a nonprofit performing arts company, your donation will help us continue our mission to positively impact the lives of young dancers.
